Amber Moore x House of Sunny for Dear Society
When we decided to introduce the brand House of Sunny to our customers, we realized that the perfect way would be to have one of our favorite customers style the pieces with us. We reached out to Amber Moore and she was happy to join us on this project. We were lucky to then find Paige from Sights and Souls who did an excellent job capturing our vision for the shoot.
We are constantly amazed and inspired by our customers and want to start sharing more of their stories. This shoot seemed like the perfect chance to get to interview Amber. We loved learning a bit more about her and we know you will too.

What is your profession and how did you decide on it? What's something you enjoy about your career?
I am a Talent Acquisition Manager for a senior living company- Arrow Senior Living. I started working in senior living when I was in high school. I realized then that I really enjoyed the older population, and wanted to do what I could to help them. I knew I couldn't be a nurse because I've got a weak stomach, so I majored in Psychology and Gerontology. I spend my days interviewing top talent to come and work for our company. I like it because I'm able to help find good people who will take the best care of our residents, and I'm also able to help give people job opportunities.

What most inspires your style and why do you enjoy getting dressed?
I think I’ve always been naturally drawn to fashion. I’m not an artist or a musician, so putting an outfit together is my form of creative expression. I enjoy pairing different colors and textures, and creating a certain mood through an outfit. As far as inspiration, Instagram is the easiest way to find inspiration these days, but when I was younger I would read fashion magazines or look up photos of female musicians.

Who are your top 3 Style influences?
Like I mentioned, most of my style influences comes from Instagram these days (not so original, I know). My favorite style Instagram’s are:
Alyssa Coscarelli (@alyssainthecity)
Reese Blutstein (@double3xposure)
Stephanie Broek (@stephaniebroek)

What advice would you give to someone trying to find their style?
Don’t take yourself too seriously, try things out of your “comfort” zone, and have fun! I think there is often this idea that someone has to have a specific style, but people are always changing- our moods change, what we like changes. Wear what makes you feel confident and happy, whatever that may be.

What is your favorite spot in your home and why and how would you describe your decor style?
My favorite spot in my home is my living room. It's moody and cozy, and I like the colors we've chosen to decorate with. Like my style, my home décor is always changing. I think right now I’d describe our home as minimal with a side of house plant. I’ve mostly decorated with plants, so in the future I hope to find some more art for our home.

What does your perfect day look like?
My perfect day would be any relaxing day I get to spend with my husband. We’d start the day walking our pup, maybe on the walk grab coffee (well Matcha for me, I don’t drink coffee anymore). Then we would spend the day antiquing or vintage shopping, if it’s nice out maybe go for a picnic. End the day with a nice dinner out and listening to some local music. This is pretty much what we do any given weekend… we are creatures of habit I suppose.

What's your best piece of relationship advice?
Oh man I don’t know if I’m someone who should give relationship advice… my husband and I have been married for about 5 years now. I think what works for us is communication and forgiveness. We both recognize that we have flaws, and try to be forgiving when one of us makes a mistake. When we are upset with each other or have  a disagreement we try to talk about it. He’s shared when he felt I’ve disrespected him, and I’ve done the same. Often times we don’t realize we’ve made each other feel that way, so we both have apologized to each other and work to be better. We also don’t take everything so seriously… we have a lot of fun together and we both make each other laugh.

What's your favorite song or album right now?
My favorite album right now is Tell Me How You Really Feel by Courtney Barnett. My favorite song off the album is City Looks Pretty.

What is your most loved self-care ritual?
My favorite self-care ritual is doing a face mask while reading a book. I actually don’t think facemasks really do much for your skin, but the act of doing them is calming to me. I’ve also been trying to work out consistently, and I consider that a more important form of self-care, although it’s not always as fun.

Tell us a bit more about your skin care routine, what products are your must haves?
I’ve found through trial and error that my skin needs a routine so I try to consistently use the same products. For face wash, I use both Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser and Origin’s Checks and Balances. I usually use Milky Jelly if it’s the morning or I haven’t worn makeup that day, and I use Checks and Balances at night if I’ve worn makeup. After I’ve washed my face, I exfoliate with Caudalie’s Purifying Toner, then use Bissoance’s Squalene Oil.  After I’ve applied those two, I’ll moisturize with Glossier’s Priming Moisturizer in the morning, and Origin’s Night-a-Mins at night. I also will use Origin’s Modern Friction Nature’s Gentle Dermabrasion once a week.
Honesty all of those products are my “must haves” but if I had to narrow it down I’d say Caudilie’s purifying toner and Origin’s Night-a-Mins are what have been the best for my skin.

What does being a woman mean to you?
Being a woman to me means being whoever I want to be. As a woman I've always felt very capable and powerful. It's an interesting thing to naturally feel strong and be subtly (or not so subtly) told that you're not. I think being a woman also means allowing other women define what femininity is to them even if it's different than how you feel.

What is your advice to women younger than you?
My advice to younger women is to be yourself. Really spend time to get to know who you are. Not who you "want" to be, but the real you. It's simple advice, but something I wish I had taken to heart when I was younger.
If you have a hard time forming female relationships, or relationships in general, that's okay. It doesn't come easy to everyone. I think it's more important to be yourself than to change who you are so that someone will like you. Also encourage others to be themselves too and accept them kindly when they do.
